Goldman Sachs Report
Yesterday a report by Goldman Sachs was published, in that report it has been said that by 2027, 10% of Indians will come in the affluent category.
Affluent Meaning?
- having a lot of money or owning a lot of things
- having an abundance of wealth, property, or other material goods; prosperous; rich:
What does the Affluent category mean?
The affluent category means that they can buy whatever they want, wear whatever they want, roam wherever they want, and spend as much money as they want without thinking about what will happen to their second-time bread. If seen properly, even today that number is above 10. Yes, it will not be there in the official figures because it is less than us in tax filing etc. And all these categories, but if you look in monetary terms, then obviously the numbers are higher than that. So it is still there in India because if you check the government data, there are nearly 2 crore Indians that are taking foreign trips every year. And as for you, I mean, you must be able to see the rest of the spending. Now, one earner is visible but there are 4-5 members in his family, so people are already in the category of Affluent.
Investment Opportunities
Yes as a stock market person, we can ask him to invest in those categories where luxury spending is going to happen in future. How can that be the case with luxury housing? It will be in companies because people would like to buy a good house. Luxury clothing has become a brand, luxury retail chains have become your food and dining people and tours and travel people have become these, all these companies can do well in future because that is where the spending is. Indians have the highest number of affiliates.
